Drama,Lies,Deciet,BackStabbing and More......It Never Ends In Paquin Tower
Once again here we are due to certain residents with in Paquin Tower just cannot seem to halt in all of their continual activities to stir up more drama about other residents.
To start here the wild and outlandish rumors about my moving are totally false and that person will be dealt with soon. I have no clue how this person can go around stirring up lies like this and stirring up other residents but I do know this will stop and it will be the last time this resident doing this will do it.
Legal actions when it concerns those of a certain age bracket who do not obviously have full control over their own thoughts, actions and who continually and maliciously continue these types of rumors and lies does not go on for long once the justice system steps into the picture.
The over all health, safety and social well being of any community needs to be maintained and as such that is why we have a legal system in these matters. Justice might be slow and the wheels turning at a speed we might not be able to contemplate but rest assured the squeaky wheel always gets the grease.
Residents have been trespassed from the lobby before and I assure you it can happen once again!
I also hear of others who have been going through these same types of issues with in Paquin Tower and they too do not deserve to be treated in this manner.
If you are one of these residents sick and fed up with these others telling their lies, spinning tales of trash talking then you need to file official complaints with April and Penny on these issues. Only then can the wheels of justice begin to turn.

Disabilities Forum to host talks with Columbia officials
Broken sidewalks. Inaccessible buildings. Development that fails to meet standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act. These are just a few of the problems that Columbia residents with disabilities face, according to a new group representing their interests.
The Disabilities Forum of Columbia has contracted with the Public Communications Resource Advisory Committee to host four face-to-face forums with the Columbia City Council. The advisory committee distributes money to local groups to help them enhance communication.
“Through these face-to-face meetings, we hope to facilitate discussion with city officials on important topics pertaining to the disability community," said Homer Page, chairman of the Columbia Disabilities Commission. "We also hope the people themselves will get involved and help us determine what topics really matter to them.”
Page said two main areas need immediate attention. The condition of sidewalks is the first and largest problem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We mourn the loss of Capt. Phil Harris
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. - Jake and Josh Harris
It is with tremendous sadness that I say goodbye to Phil Harris. Phil and I have been business partners and friends for nearly 20 years. We have been through a lot of ups and downs together with the F/V Cornelia Marie. As a skipper, he was a great fisherman. He loved his family and cared for his crew. We will all miss him. - Cornelia Marie Devlin
Statement from Discovery - Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil’s every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil’s sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.

15 Stories Of Stories In Paquin Tower
By Jordan Novet
Photos By Michelle Kanaar & L.G. Patterson
Until last year, I had not spent much time in Paquin Tower, that federally subsidized, 15-story building downtown whose 195 apartments form an independent living community for the elderly and the disabled. But then I started my collection, a set of stories from residents, employees and neighbors, an assortment of tales that opened my eyes to this neighborhood of Columbians. Each story I heard opened my eyes wider to the complexity of the place.
Along the way, I learned that not every Paquin resident is the same. Yes, there are people living in this high-rise who have physical and mental disabilities, but there are also luminaries in Paquin: John Fry, an architect who studied under a Frank Lloyd Wright disciple; Dave Dollens, a University of Missouri janitor who used his paychecks to buy pizza for poor kids; and Max Lewis, a lawyer who does pro bono work. And everyone, it seems, has a story to tell.
As I became acquainted with the people of Paquin Tower, I recorded their stories. They spoke at length of their experiences and shared, in their own words, their views of the world. I transcribed the recordings of the interviews and edited them for length and clarity. To put their words in context, I added brief introductions.
This is Paquin’s story. I hope Columbians find these oral histories as insightful and interesting as I did.

Mayorial Candidate Forum After Thoughts
Tonight's forum was a very good turn out of over 90 citizens of Columbia in attendance plus alot of the local news media in tow as usual to an event of this magnitude.
Candidates Paul Love, Robert McDavid, Sid Sullivan, Jerry Wade and Sean O’Day were in attendance. Sal Nuccio was a no show.
McDavid,Sullivan and O'Day just did not really catch my full attention and I in all honesty really wanted them to catch my attention so I as a citizen had alot more choices to choose from.
Wade and Love did catch my attention though with every thing they had to present as each question was asked of them. Especially Love being he is a real new comer to the local political scene and his concerns of Police,Fire and all EMS funding is one of my greatest issues I have that concerns all citizens of Columbia as a whole.
Time will tell but I encourage everybody to attend these other Candidate Forums coming in the future to hear the different questions and the answers these candidates will be giving.
They all did a great job but IMHO the two mentioned above did shine above the others.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE Richard Craghead
When Richard Craghead says he loves to be involved, it isn’t just idle chatter. In fact, he’s so involved with various volunteer activities you have to wonder how he gets it all done.
Richard’s volunteering has gone in several directions since 1999, when he become a resident of Paquin Tower, an independent living facility for elderly and disabled individuals. He is president of the Recreation Council there and in this position works with the city of Columbia’s Adapted Community Recreation Program, which provides recreation opportunities for Columbia-area residents with disabilities; this involvement extends to a variety of city activities.
He volunteers for the outdoor movies held in the summer at Flat Branch Park, helping with concessions and taking the money; for many years he has played Santa for the Santa hot line and helped with the setup and take-down for “Picnic in the Park” at Stephens Lake Park. He has served as president of the Paquin Recreation Council for several years and helps with the annual train show there. Also, usually on Thursdays he goes to various stores to get supplies for Parks and Rec or for the Residents Association.

Social Security Awards Nearly $20 Million in Recovery Act Contracts For Electronic Medical Records
Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner of Social Security, today announced that 15 healthcare providers and networks have received $17.4 million in contract awards to provide electronic medical records to the agency. These electronic medical records, which will be sent through the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN), will significantly shorten the time it takes to make a disability decision and will improve the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of the disability program.
“Using health information technology will improve our disability programs and provide better service to the public,” Commissioner Astrue said. “We’ve seen a significant increase in disability applications. To process them, the agency sends more than 15 million requests annually for medical records to healthcare providers. This largely paper-bound workload is generally the most time-consuming part of the disability decision process. The use of health IT will dramatically improve the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of this process, reducing the cost of making a disability decision for both the medical community and the American taxpayer.”
The contract awards are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They will require awardees, with a patient’s authorization, to send Social Security electronic medical records through the NHIN. The NHIN, a safe and secure method for receiving access to electronic medical records over the Internet, is an initiative of the Department of Health and Human Services supported by multiple government agencies and private sector entities.
