BleepingComputer.com

Ok folks you are all interested I know in being able to fix your own computers and to stop paying anybody any shop time rates no matter how cheap they might be either in the mainline business world or privately so this site is just for you.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/

I stumbled upon this site looking for an issue for a fix for one of my dedicated clients I service here at Paquin Tower. Yes I have dedicated clients who will come to me first and me alone first no matter how many bad mouth me.

Check out the site and book mark it for future use.

Never say never to a underground computer tech because surely you will be found wrong one day.

Be good to thy neighbor

It's sad, but there are some, at least one that I know of that will shake your hand, say one thing, then stab you in the back, I have pity, and question the persons integrity and upbringing.

You neighbor should be your friend, Cherish it and be part of the vertical community.

Do your part, and THINK before you choose...

Beware of 2010 U.S. Census scams

With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to be a victim of fraud or identify theft. The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way, as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race and other relevant data.

In order to tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist, the BBB offers the following advice:

• If a genuine U.S. Census worker knocks on a resident's door, he or she will have a badge, handheld device, Census Bureau canvas bag and confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions. However, citizens should never invite anyone they don't know into their home.
• At this time, census workers are only knocking on doors to verify address information. Do not give out a Social Security number, credit card or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need it for the U.S. Census. No matter what they ask, the only required information is how many people live at your address.

• While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information, such as salary range, citizens don't have to answer anything at all about their financial situation.

• The Census Bureau will not ask for a Social Security number, bank account or credit card numbers, nor will employees solicit donations. Anyone asking for that information is not with the Census Bureau.

In addition, the Census Bureau has decided not to work with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now on gathering this in-formation. No ACORN workers are authorized to approach citizens claiming they are with the Census Bureau.

Eventually, a Census worker may contact you by telephone, mail or in person at home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by e-mail. Be on the lookout for e-mail scammers impersonating the Census Bureau. Never click on a link or open any attachments in an e-mail that purports to be from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Free cell phones available to low-income residents

Low-income Columbia residents are now eligible to receive a free cell phone and 68 free monthly minutes to use in an emergency.

Nearly 16,420 low-income households in Boone County qualify for the federally subsidized program, according to TracFone Wireless, the supplier of the phones.

To qualify for the service, called Lifeline, a recipient must have a valid U.S. postal address, be the head of a household and already a beneficiary of a federal program. Valid federal programs include receiving food stamps, the student lunch program and state disability assistance, among others.

Those who meet these requirements must complete an application, which is available online, said Jose Fuentes, director of government relations for TracFone.

When to live in a assisted living home?

Just wondering, I see EMT's and Firetrucks coming to the same apartment on a weekly basis. If it was my mother that this was happening to , I would move her from Paquin, because if she was that ill, I would want her in a care facility. Is it it just me? Am I just being overly concerned? What to do?

Freegans...close to home?

For most people, consumerism is an ingrained and unavoidable way of life. We work, we spend, we trash and we buy again. It's a cycle that seems all but inescapable in an industrialized society. But a group of people that call themselves freegans think they've found a way out -- a way to exit the consumer cycle and live off the grid. They scavenge instead of buy, volunteer instead of work and squat instead of rent. But there's a catch -- to live off the grid, they have to eat out of the trash.

That's right. Freegans are Dumpster divers who rescue furniture, clothes, household items and even food cast off by others. Freegans aren't homeless; in fact, most could easily afford to buy their own food. They've instead chosen to live what they believe is an ethical, unadulterated lifestyle and disassociate themselves from capitalism and consumerism.

The word freegan is a combination of "free" -- as in it's free because you found it in a dumpster -- and "vegan," a vegetarian who abstains from all animal products. Not all freegans are strict vegetarians, however. Some would rather eat found meat, dairy and eggs than let food go to waste.

Garden Therapy

If I’m not at the beach, I’m spending time in my soul garden, enjoying the peace and quiet the suburbs has to offer between nine to five when most hard-working folk are gainfully employed elsewhere. After clearing a patch of weeds and planting some colourful flowers I’ll sit back in my garden swing with a fresh cup of percolated coffee and gently rock backwards and forwards in the gentle breeze. This is my time. My time with no husband and kids. This is my special quiet time where I get to sit for ages and think of nothing.

But for the past week I have been very excited. Perhaps more excited than I should be. For once my fantasies have not centred around George Clooney or winning the lottery, instead its been focused on buying a decorative wooden wheelbarrow and using it as a central feature for my newly created soul garden. My passion and eagerness stem from the fact that my garden was once an unruly mess and resembled my chaotic, unmanageable and directionless mind.

Both were cluttered, full of weeds, rubbish, overgrown bushes and sad neglected trees with long thin branches, and to be honest it was far too overwhelming and very frightening for someone suffering the throes of depression and anxiety. It was easier to close the curtains, take my medication and make yet another appointment with my therapist than it was to contemplate tackling the huge task of getting it all back together into some semblance of order.

One day, after discovering I was vitamin D deficient, I went out and spent ten minutes pulling weeds from a sorely neglected rose garden. I felt the warmth of the sun on my back, heard the birds singing in the trees and it was there that I had a quiet epiphany.

New Women's Discussion Group

There is a new women's discussion group that has formed here at Paquin Tower.

They will be meeting every Wednesday night in the computer lab from 6 pm to 7 pm to talk about all kinds of womens issues in general.

Everybody is welcome to attend this open meeting so the signs say but men you know when those women get to talking ain't nobody going to get a word in edgewise.

Tearing Down The Walls!

As I was walking out this morning to walk Skamp and Fiona as usual a resident met me as I was going out the back door and told me that some workers were working on tearing down the brick walls on the West side of the building.

Curious as we all are I took a look and sure enough two workers were de-capping the walls of the Cement cap stone and making ready for some serious demolition work.

The one problem I saw though is they did not have the lower end of the West side sidewalk blocked off so nobody would get hurt by dropping debris and there were cars parked along the curbside. I hope none of those cars gets damaged. I did tell Rino of this issue and when I was coming back inside he had as roll of Caution tape for them to use.

What puzzles me to though is usually CHA has notices about these types of major work up in advance for all of the residents to know about.

I did hear from the same resident who told me about the project that the walls are coming down due to the bricks are coming apart on their facing so they decided to just tear them all out and replace the walls with chain link fence with blind slats instead.

You beard it here first folks as I am sure it will be the topic of the day in the lobby to for quite some time.

Sexual assault at Paquin Tower spurs police search

Fore Note: This story here is one of the main reasons why we watch each other's backs above all else!

This is why we look questionably at every person we do not know coming in and out.

This is the reason why cameras in the hall ways, elevators and stairwells are a good thing.

This is why questionable people you look up on CaseNet.

This is why you question in your mind those you might not know!
==========================================================================
Columbia police were searching for a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred Sunday night at Paquin Tower.
The incident was reported at 3:29 p.m. Monday, and an officer was dispatched to University Hospital where the victim of the crime had gone for treatment. The victim, a 33-year-old woman, told police the suspect is an acquaintance she had met socially, Officer Jessie Haden said.
The woman told police that at about 7 p.m. Sunday the suspect invited her to his apartment. After going to his apartment, the victim passed out and woke up the next morning at 10 o'clock. She told police she believed she was drugged and sexually assaulted.
There was no additional verbal or physical assault, Haden said.
The case is being investigated. The suspect was described as a 5-foot-7-inch to 5-foot-8-inch black man with a thin build, possibly in his 40s.

Clear paths everyone’s responsibility

In winter it can sometimes take weeks for all of Columbia’s public travel ways to become clear of ice and snow. In the meantime, many people cannot reach their workplaces, shopping areas and homes. It’s a tale of two classes: One class of people get their travel ways cleared within hours of a snow event while another often has to wait for a thaw. I’m referring to our sidewalks, and the two classes of people are motorists and pedestrians/wheelchair users.

Many people don’t realize that homeowners and business owners are responsible for keeping their stretch of sidewalk clear of ice and snow. This is detailed in city ordinance 24-12: “All persons are hereby required to keep the sidewalks … free from … rubbish, filth, refuse, dirt, snow, ice … and any person failing to observe the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.” Yet as I travel Columbia, I notice there are few people keeping their sidewalks clear.

What keeps people from shoveling their sidewalks? Perhaps the homeowner is disabled or elderly and cannot physically clean the sidewalk. The homeowner might be away on vacation, or perhaps the house is vacant. The most likely reason, in my opinion, for sidewalks remaining covered is a lack of perspective.

Looking Back

I was looking back at all of the great articles I have posted on this blog since the very first day it came to mind to provide this service.

The very first article:
http://paquintowertimes.blogspot.com/2008/09/welcome-aboard.html

There have been countless articles posted here about the good that goes on in Paquin Tower no matter what my now new found critics have been posting of late.

Yet with all of those great positive articles just how many responses have this blog had? Not many but if something gets posted as of late that hints of any form of a negative my new found critics are faster than white on rice to complain.

Isn't that a little bit backwards folks? Shouldn't you be praising all of the good stories instead of criticizing the bad?

This blog from day one has been dedicated to telling both sides of the story and will continue to do so. The name is not going to change unless there is a Federal Court Order delivered to me in person by the Federal Court Judge Himself in a Federal Court of Appeals and this blog will be open for all of the world to see, view and to post on.

This blog is for you the resident of Paquin Tower and you the citizens of Columbia Missouri. That will not change. That is only fair as well to the citizens of Columbia which last I checked Paquin Tower is apart of and has been since 1973.

In the future we are still going to present the good as well as the bad because that is only the fair way of reporting any kind of citizen journalism and not candy coating issues in our community.

If you the critic do not want to see both sides of the story then maybe this blog is not for you. If you want more positive things presented then get posting those positive things. Nobody is stopping you nor will.

Keith Martin has joined the Blog as a Co Administrator and regular Article Poster. Keith and I look forward to more joining the team in the future if they wish to. This blog belongs to everybody who wishes to contribute but first you have to be willing to contribute.

Since the first article on this blog I have been volunteering alot of time doing alot of things that go with this blog. For over 5.5 years I have done alot of volunteering daily in this building itself. Now I am retiring from all but a few choice volunteering duties and am going to spend more time improving not only this blog but my Disability Blog which is viewed from all over the world and my community forum that benefits the entire community.

My critics can sit there behind their monitors and Arm Chair Quarterback about me all they like and that is fine for them but why don't you folks come on out and jump into the real game and be real players instead of wanting to just play others. Ya get my drift?

I applaud Karline for jumping into the game at last as well as a few others but there are still alot of Arm Chair Quarterbacks still that need to just come on out and step on up.

I'm sorry if that offends some of you but that is truth here and alot know it as such.

This blog will continue on to report news relevant to Paquin Tower and the Columbia Community at large. I hear rumors of another blog that will be a "Clone" to this blog which is fine by me as I am not in any competition with anybody and hopefully both blogs working together might be able to accomplish more. That will be up to them though as if nobody has really wanted to dedicate the time with me on this blog how will they want to contribute the time on another is my question? Why not just learn to work together with what is already here and established. Alot of you say you want unity well then prove it.

A successful blog such as this or any blog takes alot of time and constant work. Most get burned out after a short time and lose track of their mission. I think the mission here is still on track even though my new found critics have tried in vain to derail it lately but this blog will remain on track for the long run.

Enjoy the blog for what you get out of it as you read, If you do not like what is posted then jump on into the game here and post new articles of your own. Nobody is stopping you and in fact it is highly welcome by all affiliated with this blog. If you need access to be able to post as a Contributor then you need to contact me via my email to let me know as such.

Be sure you check out the links on the left side of this blog as well. If you have a new link you want added just tag me via email or slip me a note when you see me around the building. I will be happy to add your link if it will benefit others.

Peace out.

Paqin Tower Community Garden Season 2010

Ah once again as Spring is leaping towards us all a small group of Paquin Tower residents will be working their Green Thumb Magic out in the Paquin Tower Community Garden.

There are going to be alot of changes to the Paquin Tower Community Garden this year such as:

A fence with a lockable gate to keep all "Non Gardeners" out of the garden area.

All new rectangle gardening beds (with new soil we are all hoping).

A new water stand off at the back end of the West end of the garden.

A garden committee that will help over see the garden this year and any issues that arise.

We are hoping to see more volunteers from the Columbia Community Garden Coalition and from the M.U. Agricultural Extension helping those disabled residents who have a hard time planting, watering and weeding their gardens.

We are also hoping to see more accountability from those who do have gardens this year. A garden takes work almost every day with watering, weeding, feeding and more. Gardens left unattended tend to begin to look ugly and obviously mismanaged and as such this is where the Committee with come into play along with the Paquin Tower Community Garden Coordinator.

Columbia Parks and Recreation Horticultural Specialists will be keeping an eye on the entire garden this year too to help with the latter issue of garden neglect. The neglect that has happened in years past is not going to be allowed to happen in the future Columbia Parks and Recreation has mentioned in passing.

As we move into the planting season we all hope that all of the renovations to the garden are completed on time and we all hope to enjoy our new garden features.

If you want to join in the Paquin Tower Community Garden Committee and start your own small garden talk to Sarah Bowman in her office.

Last year the small round planters were $3.00 for the season. A half of a large rectangle planter was $5.00 for the season and a full large rectangle planter was $10.00 for the season.

Now some gardeners from last year still have dibs on their old spots plus the new dibs coming this season since some rectangle beds have come open last I heard.

We hope to see some of you out there in the sun and enjoying gardening as much as those of us do too.

Peace out.

Racism, comments, etc. in America and Paquin Tower

Am I a racist? Yes, only to a$$holes of all color, creed religion and such. I was born and raised in the 'melting pot', for those that don't know, it's California. I schooled, played, worked with people from all over the world, some of the best people you could know.

I was walking a dog for someone one day and on my way into the building, this Black man pointed his cane at me, out of the blue, and started saying I don't like black people. This Man then started to call me (what I had to look up) evidently a racist comment. I was called a 'Cracker' about 8 times. Now, that is racism at it's best!

I said no word and just tried to enter the building to return this dog to it's owner. This man, still calling me a 'Cracker' followed me until a staff member put him in his place.

I have helped allot of people here, regardless of color or religious background. So I just took it as; (well 1 out of 190+ has a problem with you) and moved on. This also reiterated that it was NOT my problem, but his, something he has to live with and I hold NOTHING against this lost soul.

The right thing, in my opinion, is to treat EVERYBODY with respect and compassion, and do whatever you can for your fellow man/woman.

The true question I guess would be, How do you do this? Well one why is to just say hi, how are you today and let the process of healing begin?

Don't know what the answer really is, I just know we all come different ways of life, but we all live the same lives...in general......

‘Dream of equality’ Event celebrates inclusive efforts.

Bill Clark doesn’t necessarily set out to promote diversity when he writes his columns for the Tribune. No, Ol’ Clark just tells it like it is, even if that ruffles some feathers.

“I’ve written about slavery to remind people,” he said. “I’ve been told to lay off. I say no.”

Intentional or not, Clark’s efforts helped earn him and his wife, Dolores, the individual diversity award at the 17th annual Columbia Values Diversity breakfast today.

“The Clarks are an integral part of the diverse fabric of Columbia,” Mayor Darwin Hindman said during the award presentation. Clark’s columns, Hindman said, have introduced generations of readers to Columbia’s past.

Clark has used his columns to not only record Columbia’s past but also highlight the achievements of women and minorities.

Added Note: Last year a small group went representing Paquin Tower. This year I did not see any notices posted up nor the PTRA Board ask if anybody wanted to go since last year the PTRA payed everybody's fees.

Did anybody else besides me notice this? Just asking an honest question.

Paquin Tower Monthly Dinners A Thing Of The Past

When I first moved into Paquin Tower some 5.5 years ago there was a monthly dinner function that was held by the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with the Paquin Tower Resident Association.

It brought alot of residents out of their rooms and down into the dining room for this building wide social activity once a month.

The food was all home made, quite tasty, nutritious and smelled oh so good all through out the building. As time went on though it was not only the cost of food that went up but the total lack of residents wanting help with all of the cooking, set up and clean up that was needed to put this function on.

When the cost of food really went up there was talk of raising the price from $3.00 to $5.00 with bigger portions to be provided and even $1.00 of the money going into the Bingo Fund which was badly needed to keep that function going.

That was the end of the monthly dinner function at Paquin Tower and alot of people said they wanted it back but nobody really wanted to do the work needed nor pay the money required. All they did was complain. The workers needed were the biggest part of the entire function but because at the end it came down to only two people doing ALL of the work and providing money out of their own pockets. One was the last Vice President of the PTRA and the other was the Recreation Specialist with Park and Recreation. Quite sad really with over 200 residents and 5 officers and 5 alternates of the PTRA Board nobody wanted to help. One would think the officers and alternates of the PTRA would jump in but nobody wanted to help. Oh I take it back the PTRA President helped alot. Wow two officers out of the entire board.

There was even one resident who took his own time to draft up a proposal to be looked at by the Park and Recreation Specialist and the President of the PTRA to look at bringing in a catered meal but it was ignored as not feasible with out even being investigated.

Once again the lack all around of people wanting to work for a better community.

So the once great monthly dinner is now a long gone thing of the past just like other things have become due to lack of interest, lack of residents willing to step up and help, lack of a real helping hand up and the fact that alot of residents are only looking for a hand out instead of looking to others to see how they themselves can give a hand up.

Yes something never change around Paquin Towers and the one thing that never changes will be those sitting around continually with their hands out waiting for their believed in Entitlements.

Didn't your Grandma and Grandpa ever tell you the story about free milk and a cow?

I guess not.

Rent Credit For Public Housing Tenents No More, State closes loop hole

Today I sent a mass email to various local news agencies about this issue facing all Missouri Residents who pay rent to Public Housing Authorities. The email is as follows:
==========================================================================
First off Jeff City has kept this very hush hush in the media for some
reason. It is time it came out of the closet.

Story out of Jefferson City. The State this year as of this last Aug
28 2009 has declared that all residents in Missouri who pay rent to a
Public Housing Authority(which are exempt from paying any and all
property taxes) are no longer going to be able to file for a Rent Tax
Credit.

This will effect alot of Missouri Residents who live in Public Housing
due to low income situations.

In past years residents were allowed to do so but no longer. This will
create some type of a hardship for some residents who looked to that
small Rent Rebate Check to help pay bills or to purchase other things
they could not through out the year.

I think your reporters might do some research on this story and break
it out into the local media outlets.

There will be alot of controversy over this State Ruling from both
sides of the fence.

I know the State is looking to save money somewhere and anywhere and
this is just another in a long line of closing loop holes and back
doors in this ancient legislative system.

This will make for some real great human interest stories if your
reporters go out into the Public Housing areas in Mid Missouri to get
any interviews.

Thank you for your time.

Pass this along to other concerned citizens you know who might be
effected or interested.
============================================================================
I can truly understand both sides of the table on this issue but my heart has to be with those who looked forward to that Rebate Credit to help with their needs too.

I am sure when this does hit the mainline news I will draw alot of heated controversy from both sides of the fence.
=============================================================================
I have this on my community forum here as well:

You're in my boat!

We are all in the same boat here at Paquin, we all paddle along, If you stab the person next to you in the back, the boat slows and goes off course....so think about it the next time you pull out the knife!

The Liars Corner and the root of all controversy within Paquin Tower

For over the 5.5 years I have lived at Paquin Tower and long before that the place in the lobby right by the book shelves known as Liars Corner,Newspaper Corner,B.S. Corner and many other names has been the main root of all discontent with in Paquin Tower.

No matter the time of day or the amount of people flowing through the lobby this small corner of the lobby if it could actually speak from over the years could tell stories of gossip that would make a sailor blush.

Everything from who is sleeping with whom, whom the druggies are in the building, who will be the next to be evicted to ranting and railing about all elements of CHA Staffing and how they "should" do their jobs according to those in Liars Corner.

Oh yes if you want an ear full just sit in Liars Corner for a little while and you will hear it all from the one who thinks he knows everything in life to those spinning new lies and more discontent as a way of looking good to their peers. Liars Corner has it all for you.....if you are into that life style.

Even myself in the past I have been dragged into many a session in Liars Corner but there comes a time when you have to realize there are better ways of spending your time. Taking a nap seems a far better way of spending time doesn't it?

So just why do those people in Liars Corner keep the pot stirred and the controversy ongoing with the lies and malicious content they spew?

Are they seeking attention because they never got any as little children?

Are they trying beyond all doubt to prove just how ignorant and uneducated they truly are?

Are they looking for approval because their own lives are meaningless?

Are they just bored and love to talk crap behind everybody's backs when they are not around?

Is their Mental Illness they are in denial over too much for them to handle?

Is it they just love to hear themselves rattle like a BB in a Tin can?

Just what drives those who sit and constantly complain and spin controversy in Liars Corner? That is a very good question isn't it.

When I first moved here there were alot of people who used to be in the lobby all of the time but over the years they have all faded back to their own units and locked their doors. The number one reason I have heard is all of the B.S. coming out of Liars Corner and the constant back stabbing of others that goes on. Alot of it is just flat out lies made up by those who obviously have no life at all.

A good friend of mine with a serious medical condition used to love sitting in the lobby watching and talking to others. Now that person stays in their unit and rarely comes down except on their way to doctor's appointments. This is sad. He is just sick of hearing the crap. I do not blame this person at all.

When will it all end? I highly doubt it ever will until those doing this constant back stabbing and gossip mongering either move from Paquin Tower, die due to natural causes or eventually self evict themselves which alot eventually do. The sad part is when one goes three others take that person's place to keep the pot stirred all the more.

What can you do as a person who is sick of this going on in Liars Corner and what can you do to turn it around?

First off make a stand against it.If you hear something that is not acceptable to you say your peace about it. Call those doing this malicious gossip mongering on their crap on the spot. Talk to April,Penny and Safety about the issue too if you think somebody might be in danger because of the above mentioned.

Don't give them any positive attention just like you would not give positive attention to some child having a fit who did not get their milk and cookies. Stay out of the lobby as a way of showing your feelings of not wanting to listen to this ongoing crap anymore and once again talk to Penny,April and Safety as a way of formal protest.

It takes people taking a stand against these types who are ruining Paquin Tower and it takes people pointing out these above mentioned types to others so everybody knows who to avoid. These people should be pointed out and should be made held accountable for their ongoing malicious gossip mongering. CHA might not be able to do much but public opinion can go a very long way.

If you want all of the malicious gossip mongering to stop make a stand and make it happen.

This goes for Coffee and Chat too!

Make a stand and demand action. That is the only way to restore some order of peace to the building.

In closing all of those in Liars Corner and Coffee and Chat who keep the malicious gossip mongering ongoing need a healthy dose of this:

Freedom Of Speech Is Alive And Well!

This blog was originally created so those at Paquin Tower and even those in the City of Columbia who might have lived at Paquin Tower can have their Freedom Of Speech on all issues concerning Paquin Tower from internal resident issues to CHA Management issues and more.

One thing that will go on here is Freedom Of Speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment Of The Constitution of the United States Of America. As it should be with any community Blog,Forum Board or Listserv.

Now not all of the topics listed here are going to be pretty nor pacify everybody nor to everybody's liking but that is just how Blogs work and run. You the reader may not like it but that is how things are going to be.

Topics of controversy will be brought to light and presented here for all to review and comment on.

We disabled Anonymous Posting so you need an OpenID or a Google Account Name to be able to post on this site. That is just part of being accountable for your postings.

Keith Martin is the Co - Administrator of this site and has all of the privileges according to that title.

Let's get back to Freedom Of Speech though. Just what is it and how do we implement it here and why.

We want anybody and everybody who wishes to express any and all concerns about Paquin Tower to be able to post here. That is only fair. Some of you might not like that but oh well.

Freedom Of Speech as defined by the following:
==========================================================================
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak without censorship and/or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to indicate not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on "hate speech".

The right to freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The ICCPR recognizes the right to freedom of speech as "the right to hold opinions without interference. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression".[1][2] Furthermore freedom of speech is recognized in European, inter-American and African regional human rights law.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech
============================================================================
Freedom of speech is a basic human right that helps preserve peace and order. Freedom to express opinions and views promotes creativity and paves the way for progress.

==========================================================================
Values Served by the Protecting of Free Speech
1. The Discovery of Truth
This value was first suggested by Milton, who first suggested that when truth and falsehood are allowed to freely grapple, truth will win out.
2. Facilitating Participation by Citizens in Political Decision-Making
It has been suggested that citizens will not make wise and informed choices in elections if candidates and proponents of certain policies are restricted in their ability to communicate positions.
3. Creating a More Adaptable and Stable Community (The "Safety Valve" Function)
It is suggested that a society in which angry and alienated citizens are allowed to speak their mind--"vent"--will be more stable, as people will be less likely to resort to violence. It has also been pointed out that allowing the alienated and discontented to speak freely enables government to better monitor potentially dangerous groups who would otherwise act more clandestinely.
4. Assuring Individual Self-Fulfillment
Free speech enables individuals to express themselves, create and identity--and, in the process perhaps, find kindred spirits. Freedom of speech thus becomes an aspect of human dignity.
5. Checking Abuse of Governmental Power
As Watergate, Irangate, Clintongate (and all the other "gates") demonstrate, freedom of the press enables citizens to learn about abuses of power--and then do something about the abuse at the ballot box, if they feel so moved.
6. Promoting Tolerance
It has been argued that freedom of speech, especially through our practice of extending protection to speech that we find hateful or personally upsetting, teaches us to become more tolerant in other aspects of life--and that a more tolerant society is a better society.
7. Creating a More Robust and Interesting Community
A community in which free speech is valued and protected is likely to be a more energized, creative society as its citizens actively fulfill themselves in many diverse and interesting ways.

==========================================================================
Freedom of speech is protected in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights and is guaranteed to all Americans. Since 1920, the ACLU has worked to preserve our freedom of speech.

===========================================================================
The main Mission of the Blog will be to guarantee all of the above in all context of the Federal Law providing for said Freedom Of Speech.

If you have an issue with CHA,any resident, the PTRA Board,Parks and Recreation or any agency servicing Paquin Tower you can bring it here, post it up and have it known to all who might read here. We are not going to Sugar Coat anything and we will always let the Posters here tell things like they really are.

Why should we do any less?

No More PTRA Board Member Term Limits

I was informed by the President of the PTRA that now they took all Term Limits away from all Officer Positions on the PTRA Board. One of the main reasons I was told was due to they did not want to lose their Secretary who is doing the majority of the work right along with Richard Craghead. Now the Secretary can stay in his office forever,as long as he wants or until death.

What this means to you the resident is that now you will have the same old Board of people doing the same old thing which is not much at all.

This reminds me of career politicians in Washington and in our own State Legislature too and look how our over all Government is now.

You will or could have the same people on your Resident Association Board till death even if the board itself chooses to be moved in that direction. So now what you have is a Social Group of sorts who will selectively graft in only who they want with total immunity and you the resident are screwed.

Your votes will mean nothing because they will do what they want anyway.

You will have no real change with this "No Term Limits Bi laws change" due to how can you have change with the same officers and alternates doing the same thing which is next to nothing besides running their Social Club?

In my 5.5 years plus here at Paquin Tower I have seen some stupid things done by the PTRA Board but this has to be one of the dumbest yet. It makes it so nobody must step up to do any work,it makes it so they can keep this long running dysfunctional board going on forever and it cheats you the resident.

Then people wonder why they do not have many who want to go to PTRA Meetings or help out.

Residents Railing On CHA Staff

Ya know this is a pet peeve of mine and it really shows just how ungrateful and lazy some truly are in our society and not just Paquin Tower.

Almost every day I walk through the lobby I hear some poor soul crying about how Penny is not in her office,Penny does not have her door open,Penny is not here today.

I hear the same crap said about April too and even Maintenance.

They are not in place here to be your personal slaves people!

Listen up you ungrateful pathetic humans to the fact is you are dam lucky you have on site Management,on site Resident Services,on site Maintenance and even a Safety Patrol for that matter!

Alot of Public Housing Sites such as Paquin Tower have NO on site Staff at all! True fact! So where do you get off on the right to complain at all besides just to hear yourselves rattle and make other's lives miserable!

There are phone numbers you can call if you need Penny,April,Maintenance or Safety and if you are too dam lazy to use them and wait and be patient about it then you can always call 911 or the Mid Mo Crisis Line for that matter but to sit around Paquin and continually cry over the above mentioned issue is utterly pathetic by nature.

You know who you are who do it daily if not hourly and you also know the immortal words spoken as well many many times that "If you do not like it here so much that all you can do is sit around the lobby all day long and complain then why don't you just move".

Alot of those doing the complaining are living here practically for free as it is and alot of you complaining do almost next to nothing to help anybody anyway in this building but still you can sit around and cry about everything.

==============================================================================
Added Note: If you cannot handle reality or true commentary then maybe this blog is not for you. This blog is dedicated to telling things as how they really are in and around Paquin Tower and always will be. It is the sounding board for everybody who chooses to post here.

When a Man's word is his word

It has also come to my attention that some residents will look you in the eye, shake your hand and make an agreement, man to man, then cheap shot you. Shows the integrity of the supposive 'man'. Makes it hard who to trust in the Tower. Some 'men' must be children in old bodies. Maybe a cognitive deficit? Live and let live....and be true to your WORD!!!!

Bah humbug to shops that cheat Christmas

Editor, the Tribune: You offend me!

When I wish your store clerks a “merry Christmas” and they retort with, “Same to you,” I know you have forbidden your employees to say, “Merry Christmas.” Is it moral cowardice; are you catering to the atheists and power-crazy control freaks who hate anything other people feel is spiritual; thumbing your greedy nose at the Christians who are the majority in this nation; killing the generosity and joy of this, leaving nothing but greed?

I am a Jew, and I have delighted in the atmosphere in Christmases gone by and the spirit of Christmas. What’s wrong with “Peace on Earth, good will to men,” even though Jesus is not your God? Would you strangle that?

I was offended by the dreariness of your store years ago when you stopped playing Christmas music for your shoppers, but you eagerly anticipated getting more of their money at this special time of year. Have you no shame?

I am grateful to live in a Christian nation that created laws to protect my right to be a Jew. Like it or not, it is a Christian nation, founded by Christians escaping religious persecution, created with laws straight out of the Judeo-Christian King James Bible and, by the grace of God, will remain so. Next year, I will bring my own music; in the meantime, a pox on you greedy, mean-spirited merchants, and to everyone, everywhere, merry Christmas; peace on Earth, good will to men. — Miss Nan the elder.

New Money Smart Class begins January 4th, 2010! See schedule below.

CHA Low-Income Services’ (CHALIS’) Money Smart program is a series of classes designed to assist prospective homeowners with money management and budgeting for future homeownership. It is open to any low- or moderate-income family in Boone County, Missouri, and is free of charge.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) created the Money Smart training program in 2002 to help adults outside the financial mainstream enhance their money skills and create positive banking relationships. Money management is the foundation of homeownership, and without that groundwork, many participants would fall short of reaching the American dream of owning their own home.

CHALIS began offering Money Smart in 2004 as a local pilot program that was funded by the Columbia Board of Realtors. Since that time, this self-sufficiency and homeownership program has enhanced the well-being of hundreds of local low-income people.

Financial education fosters economic stability for individuals, families, and entire communities. The more people know about credit and banking services, the more likely they are to clean up their bad credit, increase savings, buy homes, and improve their financial health and well-being. The Money Smart curriculum helps individuals build financial knowledge, develop fiscal confidence, and use banking services effectively.

CHALIS’ Money Smart program is a series of financial education classes designed to assist participants with developing money management skills. However, Money Smart is much more than a financial management program. It is a full-fledged homeownership educational and counseling program. Its ultimate goals are self-sufficiency and homeownership. CHALIS’ Money Smart instructor provides one-on-one counseling to class participants helping with everything from credit counseling to meeting with lenders and evaluating homeownership options.

Each Money Smart session meets once weekly for 10 consecutive weeks, and each weekly class is approximately 90 minutes in length. Participation gives individuals the opportunity to review their credit reports and scores from each of the three credit reporting agencies (Equi-fax, Experian, and TransUnion). In addition, participants meet one-on-one with the instructor to discuss ways of improving or maintaining their scores.

Eight 10-week Money Smart sessions are conducted by CHALIS each year with an average of 15 participants per session. The 10 Money Smart weekly modules include:

• Bank On It (an introduction to bank services)
• Borrowing Basics (an introduction to credit)
• Check It Out (how to choose and keep a checking account)
• Money Matters (how to keep track of your money)
• Pay Yourself First (why should you save, save, save)
• Keep It Safe (your rights as a consumer)
• To Your Credit (how your credit history will affect your credit future)
• Charge It Right (how to make a credit card work for you)
• Loan To Own (know what you are borrowing before you buy)
• Your Own Home (what homeownership is all about)

CHALIS’ Money Smart Program receives funding from the City of Columbia, Missouri (Community Development Block Grant).

Added Note: Alot in Paquin Tower would do good to go to this class so they can learn to budget their money.

What is Paquin Tower?

On another subject some residents do not seem to understand due to their grave and serious condition of "Can't Understand Normal Thinking" that whether due to a disability or a proper education or lack of research on their own part or just plain being willfully ignorant Paquin Tower is not:

A group home environment.

A nursing home.

A full time residential care facility.

A mental ward off shoot of Mid Mo.

A jail.

A long term treatment facility.

A ware house for the mentally ill or the ailing physically disabled.

A ware house for any agency concerning or servicing all or any of the above.

A place residents can do drugs with immunity because they thing they can or feel they are entitled to do so.

If you really think Paquin Tower is any of the above then you need to go read your lease before you open your mouth and this goes to those of you reading and posting here who are doing illegal drugs or any and all illegal activities that violate your lease which include having friends stay at your unit with out being on your lease for long term extended periods of time.

It is a Independent Living Environment free from all of the above stereotypes mentioned above.

The residents themselves make it seem like it is all of the above or the residents want to turn Paquin Tower into all of the above so they can be free to sit around and beg for their "Entitlements" all the day long.

Calling somebody a name or a word is not a violation of your lease nor is it in the lease and Freedom Of Speech is covered by the First Amendment of the Constitution as a Federal Law not state, county or city.

Paquin Tower is a low income rental facility controlled by H.U.D. Guidelines for the "Independent Living Accommodations" of those on low income whether disabled or not disabled. It is not for the disabled alone at all as some think and state daily in this building.

Paquin Tower is no different than any other apartment complex out on the free market in any community. That is a fact and that is how "The Lease" reads and as has been explained to me by the present manager of Paquin Tower at this time and the manager and I talk about "The Lease" quite often due to I have questions about activities with in our building I wonder if are against "The Lease".

Those include using illegal drugs, walking around the halls with open containers of alcohol going floor to floor and those residents who are bringing in those off the streets into their units for extended periods of time and alot more.

Paquin Tower is a Independent Living Community as stated and presented in "The Lease".

What is with all of those words?

So just is up with all of those words flying around this building called Paquin Tower?

Ya got the old folks calling the young folks punks,Mo Fo's and worse.

Ya got the young folk calling the old folk Mo Fo's,dirty nasty scum and more.

Ya got those in denial of their mental issues calling other tards and more.

Ya got the mentally disabled fighting back by telling the offenders where to get off and exactly how to get off in exact details.

Ya got the the various races calling each other White Crackers and N Words and yet the race calling the other a White Cracker is all up and offended if ya say the N Word or ya Big Black Mo Fo.

Ya got the homosexual crowd calling the heterosexual crowd bitches, whores, hookers, assholes and more yet if the heterosexual crowd calls a Homosexual a F'in Queer that is wrong or some crap.

Ya got the women calling the men bastards, assholes,Mo Fo's,dick heads and far worse but if the guys stand their ground and drop the "C Bomb" on the women then that is not right.

Well I say to hell with all of you hypocrites and HooooF'inRaaaahhhhh for the Freedom Of Speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution of this the United States of America!

That is a Federal Law for those of you who have no clue about your Constitutional Rights as guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.

Bottom line is you don't like what some one is saying then just get up and leave and if you do not want to be called by any of the names above by anybody in your entire life time then pull your head out of the sand, wake the hell up and do not go around calling others these names behind their backs you yourself do not want to be called!
